Dan Millar, Ph.D., APR
Senior Consultant, Institute for Crisis Management

Dr. Millar joined the staff of the Institute for Crisis Management while on sabbatical leave from Indiana State University. He has been a professor of communication, and consultant to business, for more than 25 years.

Dr. Millar joined the faculty of Indiana State University as chairperson of the Department of Communication, a position he held for 9 years. He was honored with the Kaleb Mills Distinguished Teacher Award at the ISU commencement ceremonies in 1999. He previously has taught at Central Michigan University, Bowling Green State University, Michigan State University, and Port Huron Junior College before moving to Indiana.

Dr. Millar's business clients have included Fortune 500 companies GTE North and Consumers Power Company as well as retail stores, hospitals, rural electric companies, banks and arts organizations. While in Michigan the taught in the Robert Perry School of Banking, sponsored by the Michigan Bankers Association, receiving its Distinguished Teaching Award. He also has received teaching awards from Central Michigan University and Indiana State University.

Dr. Millar has been involved in professional associations as well as currently serving as Vice President, Central States Communication Association, Vice President, Hoosier Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and Vice Chair of the Public Relations Division of the Speech Communication Association. The conventions of these associations provide outlets for research and he has made more than 40 presentations. Dr. Millar's most recent research focuses on the aftermath of crisis and methods organizations use to re-establish normalcy and a sense of community.

Beside reporting research before professional associations, Dr. Millar has published more than 25 articles and three books including Messages and Myths: An Introduction to Interpersonal Communication and Teaching Small Group Communication. He is the co-author, with Robert Irvine, president if ICM, of Crisis Management & Communication" How to Gain and Maintain Control, published by the International Association of Business Communicators.

Dr. Millar presently is completing two books: a public relations case study test, and a collection of essays on crisis communication.
